This bulk import reduces the number of manual steps during migration project set up and also helps to quickly define project scope and boundaries.

Next, StorageX views property information for all storage resources without creating custom scripts, relying on multiple protocol-specific third-party tools or dumping collected data into large cumbersome spreadsheets. It automatically discovers and aggregates information across storage platforms immediately after adding resources to the project. In addition, it also enables drill down and views of platform specific property information for NetApp Data ONTAP, EMC VNX and EMC Isilon file storage resources.

Intuitive Workflow Minimizes Migration Risk

Once the project scope and resources have been defined, StorageX optimizes project workflow through multiple automated steps. It will help to create and model migration project designs based on your environment to test out “if/then” scenarios before selecting the best project design to implement. By slicing and dicing migration projects from many different perspectives, it provides data on the design that will produce the best results.

To ensure that the selected design will hold up in a “real world” file storage environment, StorageX employs its validation rules engine to run against the design, detecting issues during the validation so that they can be resolved prior to deployment. The validation engine can then be re-run to confirm that issues have been resolved.

Working to eliminate hundreds of manual provisioning steps before designation storage resources are ready to receive file data, StorageX performs automated destination provisioning. Here automated provisioning capabilities are programmatically created to appropriate destination items such as volumes, file systems, folders, quotas, shares and exports on destination file storage resources, again minimizing tedious manual steps.

Phased, Controlled, Programmatic Migration – Simplified.

Once the migration design is validated and provisioned, StorageX works to automatically create phased migration policies to move file data between each source and destination. It eliminates errors related to accidents, typos, and other human mistakes that are common when manually creating policies, preventing the risk of downtime or outages during migrations.

Finally, StorageX preserves end-user access to file data on sources while performing baseline and incremental data copies from sources to destinations in the background. As the migration proceeds, it verifies that the migration is being successfully completed. Then, in the final cutover phase, StorageX quickly and programmatically removes user access to the source, performs a short final sync to capture new or recently updated files and shares the final destination with users.
