The World’s Most Valuable Resource is No Longer Oil, but Data

I highly recommend you read this recent article in the Economist that begins, “A NEW commodity spawns a lucrative, fast-growing industry, prompting antitrust regulators to step in to restrain those who control its flow. A century ago, the resource in question was oil. Now similar concerns are being raised by the giants that deal in data, the oil of the digital era. These titans—Alphabet (Google’s parent company), Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft—look unstoppable.”

In the Digital Enterprise, data is being created faster and faster. Data is valuable and must be preserved for long term retention. Best practice calls for a standard based approach which allows for native access of data and making sure its valuable content is available to business intelligence applications that can give you an edge.

Be warned about traditional archive approaches. Traditional archival is akin to putting data out to pasture, or a retirement home where it’s waiting to die. Archive vendors lock data up in proprietary archive products that require annual license fees. All they are doing is holding your data in the hope of it being retained for a very long time, so they can continue to collect lucrative license fees.

At Data Dynamics, we take a completely unique view of Your data. We believe that data should always remain in Your control. Our flagship product, StorageX, supports file-to-S3 Object conversion. With StorageX, you can empty your legacy NAS storage devices and move your files to cloud-based object storage. When converting files to S3 object, we leave your data in full native object…no wrapper, no sharding, no deduplication, no lock-in. And most importantly, no access fees.

You can use emerging applications built on S3 to go query that old data and bring new life and value out of it. An example of such an application is Athena. There are many who are building applications based on S3 along with SMB, NFS, etc. You need that flexibility to get the data to those applications in the format that they work with.

Let me emphasize what we are talking about here. We are revolutionizing File Archive. Our approach empowers and enables You.  Whereas traditional archive approaches just manage the death of data and the jail they are in.
